Because i’m Being13th, and 13 is my number, it is who i am. i even get tatoos on stratigic friday the 13th’s. while everyone else is walking around with their heads tucked down low, i walk with my head held high in revelance of the 13th.

True there are reasons one should fear the 13th, it is one of the most powerful numbers in numerology, and friday the 13th is associated with a lot of bad things.

Friday the 13th, ‘the most widespread superstition’

The sixth day of the week and the number 13 both have foreboding reputations said to date from ancient times. It seems their inevitable conjunction from one to three times a year (there will be three such occurrences in 2012, exactly 13 weeks apart) portends more misfortune than some credulous minds can bear. According to some sources it’s the most widespread superstition in the United States today. Some people refuse to go to work on Friday the 13th; some won’t eat in restaurants; many wouldn’t think of setting a wedding on the date.

The Devil’s Dozen

Although no one can say for sure when and why human beings first associated the number 13 with misfortune, the superstition is assumed to be quite old, and there exist any number of theories — most of which deserve to be treated with a healthy skepticism, please note — purporting to trace its origins to antiquity and beyond.

It has been proposed, for example, that fears surrounding the number 13 are as ancient as the act of counting. Primitive man had only his 10 fingers and two feet to represent units, this explanation goes, so he could count no higher than 12. What lay beyond that — 13 — was an impenetrable mystery to our prehistoric forebears, hence an object of superstition.

Which has an edifying ring to it, but one is left wondering: did primitive man not have toes?

Life and death

Despite whatever terrors the numerical unknown held for their hunter-gatherer ancestors, ancient civilizations weren’t unanimous in their dread of 13. The Chinese regarded the number as lucky, some commentators note, as did the Egyptians in the time of the pharaohs.

To the ancient Egyptians, we’re told, life was a quest for spiritual ascension which unfolded in stages — twelve in this life and a thirteenth beyond, thought to be the eternal afterlife. The number 13 therefore symbolized death, not in terms of dust and decay but as a glorious and desirable transformation. Though Egyptian civilization perished, the symbolism conferred on the number 13 by its priesthood survived, we may speculate, only to be corrupted by subsequent cultures who came to associate 13 with a fear of death instead of a reverence for the afterlife.

Anathema

Still other sources speculate that the number 13 may have been purposely vilified by the founders of patriarchal religions in the early days of western civilization because it represented femininity. Thirteen had been revered in prehistoric goddess-worshiping cultures, we are told, because it corresponded to the number of lunar (menstrual) cycles in a year (13 x 28 = 364 days). The “Earth Mother of Laussel,” for example — a 27,000-year-old carving found near the Lascaux caves in France often cited as an icon of matriarchal spirituality — depicts a female figure holding a crescent-shaped horn bearing 13 notches. As the solar calendar triumphed over the lunar with the rise of male-dominated civilization, it is surmised, so did the “perfect” number 12 over the “imperfect” number 13, thereafter considered anathema.

On the other hand, one of the earliest concrete taboos associated with the number 13 — a taboo still observed by some superstitious folks today, apparently — is said to have originated in the East with the Hindus, who believed, for reasons I haven’t been able to ascertain, that it is always unlucky for 13 people to gather in one place — say, at dinner. Interestingly enough, precisely the same superstition has been attributed to the ancient Vikings (though I have also been told, for what it’s worth, that this and the accompanying mythographical explanation of it are apocryphal). That story has been laid down as follows:

And Loki makes thirteen

Twelve gods were invited to a banquet at Valhalla. Loki, the Evil One, god of mischief, had been left off the guest list but crashed the party, bringing the total number of attendees to 13. True to character, Loki raised hell by inciting Hod, the blind god of winter, to attack Balder the Good, who was a favorite of the gods. Hod took a spear of mistletoe offered by Loki and obediently hurled it at Balder, killing him instantly. All Valhalla grieved. And although one might take the moral of this story to be “Beware of uninvited guests bearing mistletoe,” the Norse themselves apparently concluded that 13 people at a dinner party is just plain bad luck.

As if to prove the point, the Bible tells us there were exactly 13 present at the Last Supper. One of the dinner guests — er, disciples — betrayed Jesus Christ, setting the stage for the Crucifixion.

Did I mention the Crucifixion took place on a Friday?

Bad Friday

Some say Friday’s bad reputation goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. It was on a Friday, supposedly, that Eve tempted Adam with the forbidden fruit. Adam bit, as we all learned in Sunday School, and they were both ejected from Paradise. Tradition also holds that the Great Flood began on a Friday; God tongue-tied the builders of the Tower of Babel on a Friday; the Temple of Solomon was destroyed on a Friday; and, of course, Friday was the day of the week on which Christ was crucified. It is therefore a day of penance for Christians.

In pagan Rome, Friday was execution day (later Hangman’s Day in Britain), but in other pre-Christian cultures it was the sabbath, a day of worship, so those who indulged in secular or self-interested activities on that day could not expect to receive blessings from the gods — which may explain the lingering taboo on embarking on journeys or starting important projects on Fridays.

To complicate matters, these pagan associations were not lost on the early Church, which went to great lengths to suppress them. If Friday was a holy day for heathens, the Church fathers felt, it must not be so for Christians — thus it became known in the Middle Ages as the “Witches’ Sabbath,” and thereby hangs another tale.

The Biblical story that Stevens is referring to is the Last Supper, where most of the Friday the 13th superstitions are rooted.

In the Bible, Jesus and his twelve disciples gathered for the Last Supper on Thursday. Judas is considered the 13th disciple, if you include Jesus. Judas betrayed Jesus and sold him to the Romans, leading to His crucifixion the next day, which was a Friday.

On Friday, October 13, 1307 (a date sometimes spuriously linked with the origin of the Friday the 13th superstition)[25][26] Philip ordered de Molay and scores of other French Templars to be simultaneously arrested. The arrest warrant started with the phrase : “Dieu n’est pas content, nous avons des ennemis de la foi dans le Royaume” ["God is not pleased. We have enemies of the faith in the kingdom"].[27] The Templars were charged with numerous offences (including apostasy, idolatry, heresy, obscene rituals and homosexuality, financial corruption and fraud, and secrecy).[28] Many of the accused confessed to these charges under torture, and these confessions, even though obtained under duress, caused a scandal in Paris. All interrogations were recorded on a thirty metre long parchment, kept at the “Archives nationales” in Paris. The prisoners were coerced to confess that they had spat on the Cross : “Moi Raymond de La Fère, 21 ans, reconnais que (J’ai) craché trois fois sur la Croix, mais de bouche et pas de coeur” (free translation : “I, Raymond de La Fère, 21 years old, admit that I have spat three times on the Cross, but only from my mouth and not from my heart”). The Templars were accused of idolatry.

This sequence given here for 2001–2028, follows a 28-year cycle from March 1, 1900 to February 28, 2100. The months with a Friday the 13th are determined by the Dominical letter (G, F, GF, etc.) of the year. Every month that begins on a Sunday will contain a Friday the 13th, and there is at least one Friday the 13th in every calendar year.

The longest period that can occur without a Friday the 13th is fourteen months, either from July to September the following common year (e.g. between 2001–02, 2012–13, and 2018–19), or from August to October the following leap year (e.g. between 1999-2000 or 2027–28).

Each Gregorian 400-year cycle contains 146,097 days (365 × 400 = 146,000 normal days, plus 97 leap days) and they equal 146,097 days, total. 146,097 ÷ 7 = 20,871 weeks, and 400 × 12 = 4,800 months. Thus, each cycle contains the same pattern of days of the week (and thus the same pattern of Fridays that are on the 13th), but no day of the month up to the 28th can occur the same number of times on each day of the week (because 4,800 is not divisible by 7).

Adam “MCA” Yauch, a founding member of the pioneering rap band Beastie Boys, died Friday after a nearly three-year battle with cancer, the band’s publicist said.
A torrent of Twitter messages from entertainers lauded Yauch, 47, as a visionary musical artist, filmmaker and humanitarian.
“He stood for integrity as an artist. What a loss. He was a very good man,” said actor Ben Stiller.
Yauch revealed in 2009 that he had a cancerous tumor in a salivary gland. As a result, the band canceled its scheduled concerts and delayed the release of an album.
“I started feeling this little lump in my throat, like you would feel if you have swollen glands or something like that, like you’d feel if you have a cold, so I didn’t really think it was anything,” he said then in a video to fans.
Yauch, a self-taught bassist and vocalist, underwent surgery to treat the tumor that year.
The Chart: Salivary gland cancer rare with few known risk factors
2009: Springsteen, Beasties at Bonnaroo
Remembering Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys
The Beastie Boys, who blended punk and rap, burst on the music scene in 1986 with the album “Licensed to Ill,” which included hits such as “(You Gotta) Fight for the Right (to Party”), an anthem to teen angst; “Brass Monkey” and “No Sleep Till Brooklyn.”
The group came together for the first time to play at Yauch’s 17th birthday party, its publicist said.
Yauch was the oldest of the Beastie Boys, an only child who grew up in Brooklyn Heights, according to Current Biography magazine. The band, which also featured Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Adrock” Horovitz, sold more than 40 million records and had four No.1 records.
The Beastie Boys’ success in hip-hop was notable at a time when the music form was dominated by African-American performers.
“The group’s music crossed genres and color lines, and helped bring rap to a wider audience,” said Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy.
Yauch was unable to attend the band’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last month. Horovitz read Yauch’s acceptance letter.
Marquee: Remembering The Beastie Boys’ greatest hits
Under an alias, Yauch directed several Beastie Boys videos, including “Intergalactic” and “So What’cha Want.”
Yauch converted to Buddism in the 1990s after visiting Nepal and hearing the Dalai Lama speak in Arizona, he told the Buddhist magazine Shambhala sun in 1995.
“It just seemed like Buddhism, especially Tibetan Buddhism — because that’s mainly what I’ve been exposed to — was a real solid organization of teachings to point someone in the right direction,” the magazine quoted him as saying. “Some real well thought out stuff. But I don’t know, like, every last detail about Buddhism.”

Artist: Beastie Boys
Album: Licensed to Ill
Song: Paul Revere

How here's a little story - I've got to tell
About three bad brothers - you know so well
It started way back in history
With Adrock, M.C.A., and me - Mike D.
Been had a little horsy named Paul Revere
Just me and my horsy and a quart of beer
Riding across the land - kicking up sand
Sheriff's posse on my tail cause I'm in demand
One lonely Beastie I be
All by myself - without nobody
The sun is beating down on my baseball hat
The air is gettin' hot - the beer is getting flat
Lookin' for a girl - I ran into a guy
His name is M.C.A., I said, "Howdy" - he said, "Hi"

He told a little story - that sounded well rehearsed
Four days on the run and that he's dying of thirst
The brew was in my hand - and he was on my tip
His voice was hoarse, his throat was dry - he asked me for a sip
He said, "Can I get some?"
I said, "You can't get none!"
Had a chance to run
He pulled out his shotgun
He was quick on the draw - I thought I'd be dead
He put the gun to my head and this is what he said,

"Now my name is M.C.A. - I've got a license to kill
I think you know what time it is - it's time to get ill
Now what do we have here - an outlaw and his beer
I run this land, you understand - I make myself clear."
We stepped into the wind - he had a gun, I had a grin
You think this story's over but it's ready to begin

"Now I got the gun - you got the brew
You got two choices of what you can do
It's not a tough decision as you can see
I can blow you away or you can ride with me" I said, I'll ride with you if
you can get me to the border
The sheriff's after me for what I did to his daughter
I did it like this - I did it like that
I did it with a whiffleball bat
So I'm on the run - the cop's got my gun
And right about now - it's time to have some fun
The King Adrock - that is my name
And I know the fly spot where they got the champagne."
We rode for six hours the we hit the spot
The beat was a bumping and the girlies was hot
This dude was staring like he knows who we are
We took the empty spot next to him at the bar
M.C.A. said, "Yo, you know this kid?"
I said, "I didn't." - but I know he did
The kid said, "Get ready cause this ain't funny
My name's Mike D. and I'm about to get money."
Pulled out the jammy - aimed it at the sky
He yelled, "Stick 'em up!" - and let two fly
Hands went up and people hit the floor
He wasted two kids that ran for the door
"I'm Mike D. and I get respect
Your cash and your jewelry is what I expect"
M.C.A. was with it and he's my ace
So I grabbed the piano player and I punched him in the face
The piano player's out - the music stopped
His boy had beef - and he got dropped
Mike D. grabbed the money - M.C.A. snatched the gold
I grabbed two girlies and a beer that's cold.

The Beastie Boys were a huge part of generation x's childhood, we the forgotten generation only had our music at times to cling to. and when paul revere, no sleep till brooklyn and fight for your right to party came along it was like having an anthem for life! i will fight for my right to party!

Happy Triple Dragon Day!
April 13, 2012 is not only Friday the 13th, but it’s also the second Triple Dragon day of 2012! A Triple Dragon day occurs because the month, the year and the day are all ruled by the Dragon. Your luck will be tripled on a day that can be referred to as unlucky. Now is the time to take risks and to really go for big changes in your life!

Friday the 13th is a very fortunate day that brings opportunities for
inspiration, action, and change. Like April 1, April 13 is a
powerful triple Dragon day when luck is increased threefold: a
Dragon day, in Dragon month, during Dragon year 2012.

Luck is even stronger than on April 1 because Mercury is no longer
retrograde since April 4 for clear communications. And the fiery red
planet Mars is no longer retrograde as of April 13 for successful
action.

Ride the wave of energy during this Dragon year peak because there
won’t be another Dragon day like this for twelve years. Luck for
innovation, success, good fortune, and new doors opening is for all,
especially those born in Dragon, Rat, and Monkey years.

Happy Dragons,

So we have a triple dragon a lucky day on Friday the 13th the unluckiest day of the year, depending on what you believe. so do you dare to venture out of you safe zone that day to invoke the luck of the dragon, hoping you do not get smashed by a runaway truck in a freak accident walking out of the liquor store with the winning lotto ticket in your hand? Being 13th, i look at this as i day i can do no wrong, no matter how hard i try things will go my way. will you join me in a day of adventure, risks, and excitment celebrating my birthday, or will you play it safe?

whether you believe in astrology or numerology or superstitions at all you gotta at least take a shot at some fun on a day that will make most people cringe. grab the dragon by the tail and go for a ride!!!!

yes i did say Friday April 13th is my birthday muahahahahahahaha, have fun i know i will.

I was walkin’ down the street, when out the corner of my eye
I saw a pretty little thing approachin’ me
She said I’ve never seen a man
Who looks so all alone, could you use a little company?

If you pay the right price your evenin’ will be nice
Or you can go and send me on my way
I said you’re such a sweet young thing, why you do this to yourself?
She looked at me and this is what she said

Oh, there ain’t no rest for the wicked
Money don’t grow on trees
I got bills to pay, I got mouths to feed
There ain’t nothin’ in this world for free

I know I can’t slow down, I can’t hold back
Though you know I wish I could
Oh no, there ain’t no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good

Not even fifteen minutes later after walkin’ down the street
When I saw the shadow of a man creep out of sight
And then he swept up from behind, he put a gun up to my head
He made it clear he wasn’t lookin’ for a fight

He said give me all you’ve got, I want your money not your life
If you try to make a move I won’t think twice
I told him you can have my cash but first you know I gotta ask
What made you wanna live this kind of life?

He said there ain’t no rest for the wicked
Money don’t grow on trees
I got bills to pay, I got mouths to feed
There ain’t nothin’ in this world for free

I know I can’t slow down, I can’t hold back
Though you know I wish I could
Oh no, there ain’t no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good

Well, now a couple hours passed and I was sittin’ at my house
The day was windin’ down and comin’ to an end
And so I turned on the TV and flipped it over to the news
And what I saw I almost couldn’t comprehend

I saw a preacher man in cuffs, he’d taken money from the church
He stuffed his bank account with righteous dollar bills
But even still I can’t say much because I know we’re all the same
Oh yes, we’ve all seek out to satisfy those thrills

You know there ain’t no rest for the wicked
Money don’t grow on trees
We got bills to pay, we got mouths to feed
There ain’t nothin’ in this world for free

I know we can’t slow down, we can’t hold back
Though you know we wish we could
No there ain’t no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good

as i have been watching “fictional” tv show for the past couple season, that is loosely based around the central valley. i used to think what we did was something unique to our area. then i sit here watching this of course it is greatly dramatized but there are enough coincidental similarities, it makes me think we were not that unique, apparently we were no different than thousands of people across the nation. the same ones who sit and watch this same show.

i grew up in lodi, and lived a grandiose life in m mind trying to pattern it after the same types i sought approval from, only to loose it all behind the pursuit of that.leaving being a good size fish in a small pond & ending up homeless and faceless in a big city. living out my annonymous life getting cheap thrills of past glories through a fictional tv. nobody knows anything about what i did or didn’t do before i started my new life in the big city, and even though i was never as big and bad as i thought i was. when someone calls me a wannabe these days i just have to laugh, cause they will never know how much i don’t want that. or for that matter how much different i am to how i used to be. bring me to wonder how many others fit in that same box, and who is running around thrown out wannabe to cover their own tracks. but i digress i just started to write about the similarities of old lodi and a fictional tv and well my rambling mind got the best of me again. well that is why i started writing to find a sense of peace of mind.
